DAY 1: Capacity Strengthening of Umbrella Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs)

The two-day workshop on “Building Sustainable OPDs through Effective Fundraising,” implemented by the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) with funding support from the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and technical support from the African Disability Forum (ADF), is currently underway, bringing together leaders of umbrella Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) for strategic learning and institutional strengthening.

The first day of the workshop is focusing on strengthening OPDs through policy review, governance systems, and the strategic application of organizational frameworks that support long-term institutional sustainability. Participants are engaging in critical discussions on how internal policies, operational structures, and accountability mechanisms can be effectively implemented to enhance organizational performance and credibility.

The sessions are also exploring practical fundraising strategies, including donor relationship management, resource mobilization planning, and the development of compelling, results-oriented funding proposals that align with both organizational priorities and donor expectations.

This ongoing engagement is designed to strengthen the institutional resilience of OPDs, reinforce transparent governance and accountability systems, and enhance the capacity of disability-led organizations to mobilize resources strategically and sustainably.

By investing in stronger systems today, OPDs are better positioned to advance effective advocacy, inclusive development, and the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in national development processes.
