Emmanuella’s life took an unexpected turn after a school accident left her with a disability. The road to acceptance was long and challenging, as she grappled with her new reality. It was particularly difficult for her because she felt isolated, unaware of the vibrant community of organizations for persons with disabilities that existed around her.

In 2023, everything changed when Emmanuella learned about JONAPWD (Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities). She received an invitation to a meeting, and attending this gathering was a pivotal moment in her life. For the first time, she found herself in a space filled with individuals who shared similar experiences. This powerful realization, that she was not alone, provided her with immense encouragement and hope.

Soon after, Emmanuella was paired with a mentor as part of the Holding Rights, Leading for Rights project for women with disabilities, which operates in 11 states, including the Federal Capital Territory where she resides. Her mentor, Madam Beatrice, the JONAPWD women leader for FCT, became a guiding force in her life. Through various advocacy initiatives, Beatrice taught Emmanuella about her rights, many of which she had first learned about during her initial meeting with JONAPWD.

Emmanuella’s journey didn’t stop there. Her newfound confidence and knowledge led to her selection as a Disability Inclusion Facilitator in another project. In this role, she facilitates engagements across Nigeria, helping to create a more inclusive society for persons with disabilities. A key advocacy point for her is employment. She believes that every youth with disability has the right to dignified and fulfilling work.

Today, Emmanuella stands as an empowered advocate, using her voice to promote awareness and rights for individuals with disabilities. Her journey of acceptance has transformed into a mission of advocacy, inspiring others to embrace their realities and fight for their rights.
