JONAPWD, under the leadership of its National President, Abdullahi A. Usman, hosts the 2024 Grantees Convening, which is supported by the Disability Rights Fund/Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRF/DRAF).

The theme for this year’s DRF Grantee Convening is “Building a Diverse Disability Movement in Nigeria: Exploring Underutilized Opportunities for Growth and Impact”.

The 4-day convening is an event where Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) come together to share their work, collaborate, and learn from one another. It provides grantees the opportunity to participate in workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions aimed at strengthening the disability movement.

The event is attended by representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a representative of the Chairman of the House Committee on Disability Matters, Moses Fayinka; the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), James Lalu; Mathilde Quellet from the High Commission of Canada in Nigeria; Kole Shettima, MacArthur Foundation; The Leprosy Mission, Pius Ogbu Sunday; and a representative of the Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters, Yusuf Iyodo.

Additionally, 25 Organisations of Persons with Disabilities are represented, this includes: Inclusive Friends Association, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities, Hope Alive for Possibilities Initiative, Association of Intellectual and Development Disabilities, National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities, Hope Inspired Foundation, Voice of Disability Initiative, Lionheart Ability Leaders, Network of Women with Disabilities, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria, Women and Girls with Albinism Network, She Writes Woman, Sauri Growth Initiative for Women and Youth with Disabilities, The Irede Foundation, Advocacy for Women with Disabilities, Disability Not A Barrier Initiative, Freke Andrew-Essien Foundation, Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, Nigeria Association of the Blind, Eagles Voice International for Disability Rights, Association of Lawyers with Disabilities in Nigeria, Disability Rights Advocacy Fund, and Dwarfs Association of Nigeria.
