We are proud to share that the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Usmanu Danfodiyo University to advance disability inclusion and accessibility within the institution.

This milestone partnership marks a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive learning environment. Through this collaboration, JONAPWD will mirror and reinforce inclusive systems, while the management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University will work to sustain and strengthen these efforts across the institution.
Building an Inclusive Academic Environment
The partnership focuses on developing disability-inclusive policies, implementing structural modifications, and driving continuous improvements to facilities. The goal is clear: to ensure equitable participation and full access to academic life for students with disabilities.
A key outcome of this engagement is the establishment of a Disability Support Unit within the university. This unit will serve as a central coordination hub, providing students with disabilities access to learning aids, assistive technologies, and essential academic resources. By institutionalizing this support structure, the university is embedding accessibility into its core systems rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Strengthening Systems for Sustainable Impact
Beyond infrastructure, this collaboration aims to strengthen institutional frameworks to remove systemic barriers. When policies, structures, and attitudes align with inclusion, students with disabilities are empowered not just to enroll—but to participate fully, excel academically, and thrive socially.
Importantly, this initiative is not isolated. Similar partnerships are being implemented across institutions in Edo, Plateau, Osun, and Oyo States, reflecting a growing national commitment within Nigeria’s education and health sectors to institutionalize accessibility, equity, and meaningful participation.
Powered by a Commitment to Equity
This transformative project is made possible through the generous support of the Ford Foundation, whose longstanding commitment to equity and social justice continues to drive inclusive development across Nigeria’s education sector.
Accessibility is not a privilege—it is a right. Sustainable inclusion demands systemic change, and this partnership represents a powerful step toward building institutions where every student, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to succeed.
